The Discerner Summer Soiree 2017 was held at the famous British gunmaker of London called Purdey & Sons. They specialise in high-end bespoke sporting shotguns and rifles, and hold three Royal Warrants of appointment as gun and rifle makers to the British and other European royal families.
The success of this fantastic collaboration allowed invaluable connections between art collectors, artists and enthusiasts.
The most exceptional meeting took place between Mrs Deborah Sellar and the equestrian artist Melanie Wright.
Mrs Deborah Sellar is the owner of Badminton winner Nereo. When she saw Melanie Wright’s work, she immediately asked her if it would be possible to do a portrait of her magnificent horse.
Of course, Melanie accepted this offer immediately and a wonderful relationship began.
After a year of work, Melanie Wright has now completed her gorgeous portrait which pleases Mrs Deborah Sellar immensely.
Other terrific contemporary artists also attended this delightful soiree and we had the pleasure to show some exceptional works such as “First Past the Post” by Dameon Priestly, “The Blurred Monarch” by Phil Davison, “SI7” by Meng Zhou, “Daybreak” by Michael Batey, “Beautiful Brutalism” by Amelia Lancaster, “Waterfall on a Whim” by Jessica Oliver, “Times Square” by Michael Kidd and “Untitled After Ernst Haeckel” by Gayle Storey.
In addition to admiring the works of these incredible artists, our guests also had the privilege to benefit from superb live music performances.
Christian Joannes and James Millar (piano and saxophone) played a fantastic arrangement of three pieces by Pink Floyd: “Money”, “Shine on you crazy diamond” and “Us and them”.
It was fantastic, and extremely well received by our guests!
